Basic cooking
Basic cooking skills are necessary to prepare ketogenic meals. Here are the most important techniques.
Frying
Frying gives good flavor and texture. Use enough fat in the pan – with a ketogenic diet, the fat is part of the meal, not just a tool. Medium heat gives even frying without the fat burning.
Boiling
Boiling vegetables is a gentle method. Use little water to preserve nutrients, and weigh the vegetables before boiling. The boiling time varies with size and type – test with a fork to check if they are tender.
Baking
Ketogenic baking requires different ingredients than regular baking – often almond flour, coconut flour and egg yolk. Weigh all ingredients accurately. Ketogenic dough is often more moist and fatty than regular dough.
