Kindergarten
The kindergarten is one of the places where the diet meets the outside world for the first time. Good information and clear agreements are the key to making it work.
Information to the staff
Meet in person with the manager and primary contact. Explain what the diet is, why it is important, and what happens if it is not followed. Provide written information with a contact phone number to you and to the treating healthcare professional.
Ready-made meal packages
Deliver the meals pre-packaged and labeled with content, date and name. The staff should not need to weigh or calculate – just serve what is sent. It is a good idea to have an extra portion in the freezer at the kindergarten for unexpected situations.
Agree on routines for meals
Agree when and how the meals should be served. Should the child eat together with the others? Should they sit in a separate place? Also agree on how the staff handles situations where the child wants food from the shared table.
Celebration and parties
When there is a birthday or other celebration at the kindergarten, deliver a ketogenic variant of cake or festive food in good time. Ask the staff to inform you in advance so you can prepare something similar.
